We are the Gods
One of the talents good artists possess is the ability to improvise and listen to the hints of Life. They know the precious value of Chance, when certain seemingly insignificant details interfere with the creative process, finally guiding it in the totally opposite, new direction. And this is the case with many works of the Ukrainian painter Tetiana Cherevan, as they seem to evolve from the intriguing life coincidences and purely intuitive u.
The featured series of canvases was born during the artist’s journey to Ko Samui, a Thai island. During the first visit, in 2014, Tetiana and her family came across an abandoned art gallery. The local artist, who had once owned it, died long ago, yet they met and made friends with his granddaughter. During a new trip to Samui in 2017, Tetiana revisited the place to discover that the gallery was in an awful state, with a leaking roof, crumbling walls, and paintings eaten by termites. The artist decided to take and use some of the damaged canvases in her new project. Such a symbolic gesture of giving the paintings ‘a second life’ becomes even more eloquent considering the images that originally were on them: all of the pieces initially were a curious sample of the zen calligraphic motif, known as ensō. Ensō is a hand-drawn circle, which for the Buddhists became a universal symbol of integrity, enlightenment, the cyclical nature of existence, as well as a visualization of Void: as a the Heart Sutra reads, “Form is void and void is form.”
How to Frame Your Artwork
Works on paper (drawings / prints on paper)
I ship works on paper unframed. Ready-made frames are easy to find (e.g., IKEA’s classic RIBBA). Most include a white mat (mount) that lets the artwork “breathe.”
- Choose white or black frames/mats to suit your space.
- Black mats usually need to be purchased separately.
- You can echo a color from the piece (e.g., a subtle green frame) or pick an ornate wooden frame for a more classic/gothic interior.
Canvas paintings
Canvases are usually displayed without an outer frame—the edges are painted as a continuation of the image for a clean, contemporary look.
If you prefer a frame, choose an open (floater) frame: it mounts from behind and leaves a slim gap around the canvas, adding visual “air” without covering the composition.
Art prints
Many of my prints are offered already framed and marked on the product page as “Framed Print.” In that case, no extra framing is needed.
I also offer unframed prints at a lower price—perfect if you want to choose your own frame. For unframed options, standard ready-made frames (like IKEA RIBBA) work well; canvas prints pair beautifully with floater frames. Please check each listing’s details for size and finish.
